Ep 295: 3 Hard Business Lessons I've Learned Over the Past 25 Years
Jun 05, 2025
Hey friends!
After 25 years of running my own businesses, I’ve racked up a treasure trove of lessons—most of them learned the hard way. In today’s episode, I’m sharing three of the biggest takeaways that could save you a lot of headaches, stress, and even money as you navigate your own entrepreneurial journey.
Here’s a sneak peek:
👉 Lesson 1: The Inventory Trap
If you’re selling products—whether physical or digital—too much inventory can sneak up on you fast. I’ve been there: stacks of unsold items crowding my garage and weighing down my mind and wallet. Even if you’re a service provider, too many offerings can dilute your marketing and confuse potential clients. The key? Keep it simple. Offer fewer, stronger options that truly serve your people.
👉 Lesson 2: Protect Yourself from the 1%
Here’s the harsh truth: there are criminals out there. I’ve had items stolen through chargebacks and seen shady buyers exploit the system. My son has too! From eBay scams to stolen digital courses, it’s a reality in business. Protecting yourself—through insurance, careful shipping, or watermarking your digital content—is essential.
👉 Lesson 3: You Can’t Please Everyone
This one was tough to learn! In the early days, I tried to be everything to everyone. Now? I know it’s better to be crystal clear about what I do (and don’t do!). Setting boundaries and communicating them upfront has made my business stronger and my work with clients so much more rewarding.
These three lessons have been game-changers for me, and I hope they’ll be just as helpful for you.
