Ep 306: 3 Steps to create something worth selling - for new business owners.
Aug 21, 2025
Let me tell you what I think is the most heartbreaking thing I see with new entrepreneurs.
It’s not that they didn’t try hard enough… it’s that they poured their heart, their time, their energy into starting a business—only to realize nobody actually wanted what they were selling.
And friend, that disconnect? Between your passion and what the market really wants? It has derailed so many amazing women before their business even had a chance to get off the ground.
I’ve seen this play out over and over in my 20+ years of running businesses. People rush to launch. They’re excited—and I love that excitement!—but they skip one critical step: making sure their offer actually solves a real problem people are willing to pay money for.
Without that piece, what happens? Wasted time, drained resources, and honestly, shattered confidence. And I don’t want that for you.
Here’s the good news: this does NOT have to be complicated. You don’t need a fancy marketing degree or expensive research. There’s a simple three-step way to make sure you’re creating something worth selling.
Step One: Discover Real Problems
You’ve got to know what your people are really struggling with—not what you assume, but what keeps them up at night.
So instead of projecting your own experiences, go talk to them. Ask questions. Listen. Pay attention to the patterns.
Sometimes you’ll be shocked at what comes up. You may love tech and think people need help building websites. But the women you want to serve? Maybe they’re overwhelmed by tech altogether and what they need is someone to make it easier or even take that piece off their plate.
That kind of insight only comes from real conversations.
Step Two: Create a Real Solution
Once you know their problems, create something tangible that solves it.
If it’s a product—make a sample.
If it’s a service—map out your process or program.
Then hold it up to their problem and ask: does this really fix it? Not kinda. Not maybe. But truly.
If the answer is no—back to the drawing board. Better to refine now than launch something that doesn’t hit the mark.
Step Three: Would YOU Buy It?
This is the most gut-checking step. Ask yourself:
“If I had this exact problem, would I grab my wallet and buy this solution right now?”
Not—would I think it’s nice. Not—would I buy it if it were cheap.
But—would I feel relief and excitement finding this? Would it feel worth every penny?
That’s the level you’re aiming for.
So let’s recap:
-
Discover their real problems.
-
Create a solution that actually fixes those problems.
-
Honestly evaluate if you would buy it.
That’s it. Three steps that can save you from the pain of building something no one wants.
Because here’s the truth: the market doesn’t reward effort or good intentions—it rewards real solutions. And when you focus on creating something truly worth selling, that’s when you unlock the chance to both make money and feel fulfilled doing what you love.
And I want that for you.
