Ep 329: how to get past the fear of creating something new in your life.

Many of us stand at the edge of a new idea with our foot on the brake. We picture a business, a creative project, a podcast, a talk, even something small we could make with our hands. And almost immediately, the doubts rush in. We imagine judgment. We hear our inner critic get loud. We assume all eyes are on us.

But here’s the irony. The desire to create something new isn’t a sign of ego. It’s a sign of health. It’s purpose stirring. It’s life wanting to move through you into the world.

When we ignore that nudge, we don’t just avoid risk. We deny a core part of who we are.

One truth clears a lot of fear fast: most people are not thinking about you nearly as much as you think. They’re busy managing their own lives. We inflate the audience in our heads and treat imagined judgment like real danger. Once you shrink that crowd to its true size, another truth becomes obvious. You were made to create.

You can see it in Scripture, starting in Genesis, where God reveals Himself first as a Creator and then makes us in His image. But you can also see it in human nature. Children build, draw, and invent without asking permission. They create first and evaluate later. And they light up while doing it.

Somewhere along the way, we traded curiosity for caution. Not because we gained wisdom, but because we misused it. Wisdom is meant to guide how we build, not whether we build.

Creating doesn’t require confidence. It requires movement. Start small. Treat your first attempt like a bridge, not a verdict. A rough outline. A pilot episode. A small batch. When you break creation into testable steps, momentum replaces dread.

And creation finds its real power in service. When what you make helps someone else, it stops being about your worth and starts being about contribution. A message that steadies someone. A product that solves a problem. A resource that saves time. That’s not small. That’s impact.

Fulfillment isn’t a feeling you wait for. It’s a connection between your gifts and someone else’s need. And that connection only forms when you act.

So if fear is still whispering, anchor yourself in clarity. You’re not chasing attention. You’re answering a call to contribute. Your worth isn’t on trial. It was settled long before this idea showed up.

Create at a pace you can sustain. Create with a posture of service. Create even when it feels unfinished.

You were made for this. And someone out there is waiting for the thing only you can make.
