Ep 58 - Your business can't be ALL things to ALL people.Nov 26, 2020
We all know that you can't be all things to all people. Well, the same goes for your business too.
Here's 3 examples:
1 - Your can't be all things to all people when it comes to WHO you serve. You have to make a conscious decision for who you want to serve. For example, for me, I specifically chose to serve NEW business owners because that is where my heart lies. I know I can help them the most - and I feel the most empathy for how exciting (and scary) it can be when stepping into business for the first time. So you have to think about when your business, who is it that you truly want to serve? Then get going...and a more specific niche will be revealed to you as you serve over the coming months/years.
2 - You can't be all things to all customers in terms of WHAT you offer. You have to narrow down what you are offering and keep it as simple as possible. If you are selling products, you need to focus on the subset of products that sell most and keep offering those. If you are selling services, make sure you don't complicate things and end up confusing your customer and then causing them not to buy. You have to be intentional about the products/services you offer.
3 - You can't be all things to all customers. It's true - you won't make 100% of your customers happy all the time. And in all honestly, this is a hard thing for me. I always want customers to happy - and so should you. However here are the facts: you will screw up, some customers will simply be rude for no reason...while some customers will kindly give you grace. In addition...some customers may not be totally happy but never say thing. So, everyday strive to do your best, be your best, provide the best service you can, make things right - and then give yourself some grace too. It's hard being a business owner and being perfect 100% of the time. You can't. But what you can do is put your best foot forward and make things right if they go wrong.
